The principles of this design are that the courtyard should have a social function for the residents, that the design must be unique and that the area has a green appearance. The conditions are functionality, aesthetics and safety.
An important precondition is that the security should be ensured. This is ensured by a design with clear sight lines without cluttered areas. To accentuate the green, ‘green islands’ with small trees such as stem prunus and magnolias are placed. At the edges of the field short bushes are planted. For maintenance boxwood is used, supplemented by seasonal grasses and perennial bulbs like daffodils.
When developing a new design, the wishes of local residents are inventoried. The requests are integrated into the design. The goal is to combine functionality and aesthetics in a design that benefits the field and its neighbors.
Local residents are asked what is important to them. This is reflected through a series of meetings with the local residents and key figures about what the courtyard should offer. In addition, there is an artistic participation process an option whereby objects, thoughts and wishes of residents are used in the design.
